Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development
Be proactive, minister urges SMEs

Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Sithembiso Nyoni has challenged businesspeople in Plumtree to organise themselves and exploit business opportunities in their area.

Minister Nyoni said this during a tour of small businesses in Plumtree town on Friday. She was accompanied by Minister of Media, Information and Publicity Webster Shamu and his wife Constance, Deputy Minister of Public Service, Andrew Langa; Zanu-PF Politburo member Eunice Sandi Moyo, Senator Lutho Tapela of Bulilima and Mangwe districts and Zanu-PF Central Committee member Richard Ndlovu.

Addressing residents at Plumtree Council Hall, Minister Nyoni said communities should be on the forefront in development matters and urged them to come up with innovative business ideas before approaching her ministry for financial support.

"Development will not come to you if you don’t take the lead and organise yourselves to start something," said Minister Nyoni.

"As a ministry we have four different categories that we want you to work on before coming to us for financial support. You can organise yourselves as families and create a business venture in that set up.

"Secondly, you can identify people to work with and form a co-operative of 10 people or more and come up with your own constitution and register the initiative with the ministry.
